Read previewAs it turns out, millennials can sit with the new "Mean Girls." But contrary to the marketing that made millennials feel ancient, the new "Mean Girls" isn't trying to push its thirtysomething viewers in front of a bus. The trailer called millennials old to their faces in a bold, pink-lettered declaration: "This isn't your mother's 'Mean Girls.'" Her talent is indisputable and can easily be recognized and appreciated by a member of any generation who finds themselves in a theater showing "Mean Girls" this winter. Thankfully, making a "Mean Girls" movie that isn't for millennials is just as impossible as making fetch happen — but the fact that they ever tried to still isn't grool.

Few investors are more emblematic of the no-interest-rate private market frenzy than billionaire Scott Shleifer. Tiger's venture approach in 2020 and 2021 — constantly described as unsustainable by rivals — included maneuvers such as offering start-ups more money than they were asking and emailing founders term sheets after a single meeting. Shleifer's reputation and personal wealth grew with Tiger's venture success. As Tiger was fundraising late last year, investors learned of a $10 million settlement Tiger Global made to a former female employee. At least one Tiger investor was surprised to hear about it from Coleman and not Shleifer himself.

Should a few members of the Squad lose their primaries, the blow to Democratic unity could be severe. “And they’ll either stay at home or they’ll go to a third party.”Already, there are signs that the party is fracturing over Israel. Advocates for the freedom and safety of Palestinians, horror-struck by more than 10,000 civilian deaths in Gaza, believe that the Democratic Party is giving its approval to atrocities. These big-footed donors, who are overwhelmingly targeting representatives of color, are going to exacerbate the fissures in the Democratic Party. Diana Lovett, a Democratic Party district leader who held a fund-raiser for Bowman last year, said polarization over the congressman was tearing apart local Democrats.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar got a prominent Democratic primary challenger Sunday when former Minneapolis City Council member Don Samuels announced he'll try once again to unseat her after coming close in 2022. But Omar — a Somali American and Muslim — has come under renewed fire for condemning the Israeli government’s handling of its war against Hamas. Jeremy Slevin, a spokesman for Omar, did not immediately return a phone message left Sunday seeking comment on Samuels' announcement. Omar has been critical of Hamas for attacking Israel and taking hostages — but even more so of Israel’s military response. That drew pushback from a strong supporter of Israel, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who issued a public show of support for Omar this summer.

Bowman, Lee, Omar and Tlaib also were among the 17 sponsors of Bush’s resolution asking the Biden administration to call for a ceasefire. Challenges to Bush and the others were possible even before the Hamas attack on Oct. 7 or Israel’s subsequent attack on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. It is unfortunate, Andrabi said, that the House Democratic leadership has not taken a stronger stance against AIPAC’s efforts to knock off rank-and-file Democrats. It remains unclear whether House Democrats will help incumbents fend off primary challengers through campaign fundraising arms. Before Oct. 7, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., issued statements of support for Omar and others, saying he will support the reelection of every House Democratic incumbent, regardless of ideology.

Affirmative action supporters and counterprotesters shout at each other outside the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C., June 29, 2023. Now that the Supreme Court has struck down race-conscious admissions, employers could face challenges in how they find diverse talent. A group of 13 Republican attorneys general suggested in the wake of the ruling that companies' diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, programs could be considered unlawful discrimination. In the wake of the ruling, many fear universities could become less reliable sources from which to recruit diverse talent. However, during the last year there has been a "step back" in terms of diversity hiring, said Reyhan Ayas, a senior economist at Revelio Labs, a workforce data and analytics firm.

Benjamin Samuels, a 31-year-old cybersecurity auditor from Los Angeles, started shifting his emergency cash into Treasurys last year, attracted by rising interest rates. He hadn’t expected the U.S. government—thought to be the world’s safest borrower—to find itself two weeks from default. Mr. Samuels had set up his Treasury holdings to reinvest automatically as bills mature, but he logged on to the Treasury Department’s website last week to reverse that setting. Now he is holding more cash, spooked by the approaching deadline for Congress and President Biden to raise the government’s borrowing limit to avoid an unprecedented U.S. borrowing snafu.

A think tank created by a Palantir co-founder is behind model legislation banning "public camping." So far, Texas and Missouri have passed laws making public camping a Class C misdemeanor. Many states and cities have taken a punitive approach to the problem, making homeless encampments illegal. In 2021, Texas became the first state to pass a Cicero-inspired state-wide law, making public camping a Class C misdemeanor punishable with up to a $500 fine. And, if they don't comply with the ban, it criminalizes their living condition," Eric Samuels, president and CEO of the Texas Homeless Network, said in a statement at the time.
